Trees, 20 - 25 m tall; branchlets tomentose when young. Leaves elliptic or oblanceolate, attenuate at base, shortly acuminate at apex, 20 - 35 x 5 - 10 cm, coriaceous, glabrous, shiny above; lateral nerves 12 - 24 pairs; petioles ca 2.5 cm long. Flowers solitary, terminal, 5 - 7.5 cm long, white; pedicels ca 2.5 cm long; bracts densely adpressed tomentose. Sepals 3, suborbicular, caducous. Petals 9, in 3 whorls, broadly elliptic obovate; outer whorl reflexed, inner ones concave, smaller. Stamens numerous; filaments short; anthers oblong, ca 1.5 cm long. Gynoecium sessile; carpels ca 20. Fruiting carpels woody, dehiscent by ventral suture; pits shallow, rhomboidal.
