Trees, ca 13 m tall. Leaves broadly oblong, rounded at base, shortly acuminate at apex, 16 - 22 x 6 - 9 cm, glabrous; petioles ca 1.5 cm long, puberulous. Flowers bisexual in 8 - 10-flowered leaf-opposed cymes; peduncles ca 5 mm long; pedicels ca 1.5 cm long, hoary whitish pubescent; bracts minute, median and basal. Sepals 3, connate at base, ovate, acuminate, ca 2 x 1.5 mm, pubescent outside and at base inside. Petals 6 (3 + 3), subequal, oblong, obtuse at apex, ca 1 x 0.5 cm, fleshy; outer petals brown pubescent outside, whitish hoary pubescent inside; inner ones reddish, concave at base inside, narrower than outer ones, pubescent on both surfaces. Stamens numerous, ca 2 cm long, with the connectives broad and recurved at top; anther-thecae linear; filaments short. Carpels ca 2.5 mm long, pubescent; ovules many in 2 rows; style linear; stigma curved. Ripe carpels not seen.
