Annual herbs; stems erect, up to 60 cm high, usually glabrous, sometimes pubescent.
Radical leaves simple, ovate, crenate, withering early; cauline leaves 3-partite; segments
again cut into linear entire or dentate lobes. Flowers ca 1 cm across, pale greenish
yellow; pedicels terete. Sepals oblong-spathulate. Receptacles pubescent. Achenes 5 -
10, in one whorl, 6 -
8 mm long, flat, obovate, plano-compressed, covered by hooked
spines along borders; beak 3 -
5 mm long, straight.
