Herbs, perennial, often forming mats; rootstock short, with cord-like fibres; stems ascending, glabrous or with scattered reddish brown hairs. Radical leaves long-petioled, 4- to 5-palmately lobed; terminal lobes almost orbicular; cauline leaves sessile or dissected. Flowers 1.5 - 2 cm across, yellow. Sepals covered with dense reddish brown hairs outside. Petals 5, broadly ovate. Achenes glabrous.

Fl. & Fr. June - Aug.

Distrib. India: W. Himalayas. Jammu & Kashmir.

Pakistan, C. Asia and Russia.
