Herbs, often trailing, pubescent. Leaves ovate, cordate at base, acuminate at apex,
crenate to serrate. Flowers solitary, axillary; pedicels filiform, jointed, geniculate.
Epicalyx absent. Calyx stellate to widely campanulate, lobes almost free to the base.
Corolla slightly exceeding calyx, petals obovate. Staminal column short, glabrous.
Schizocarps globular, indented at apex; mericarps 10 -15, inflated, membranous, shiny
at maturity, rounded at apex, 2 or 3-seeded. Seeds reniform.
America, Australia, India and China (Hainan Islands), ca 3 species; one in India.
Notes. This genus is allied to the Abutilon Mill. but can be well distinguished by its inflated carpels with rounded apex, thin chartaceous pericarp and vine-like weak stems.
