Herbs, perennial; stems leafy, appressed hairy, hairs branched, medifixed. Leaves elliptic to linear-oblanceolate; basal rosulate, cauline crowded. Racemes 10 - 30-flowered. Flowers bright orange-yellow. Sepals erect, inner saccate at base. Petals long-clawed, yellow; median nectaries absent. Fruit a siliqua, compressed, terete, erect, appressed hairy, valves with a distinct midvein. Seeds 1 - 2-seriate; radicle accumbent.

Eurasia; about 10 species, 1 cultivated in India.
