Large trees. Leaves simple, very broadly rounded-cordate, glabrous, entire, digitately nerved at base. Flowers polygamous, some bisexual, others unisexual by abortion
in raceme-like panicles crowded at the ends of the branchlets; pedicels jointed at the
apex; bracts rudimentary. Calyx tubular, shortly 5-lobed, persistent. Corolla absent.
Stamens 10 on a column round the abortive carpels. Carpels 5, shortly stipitate. Follicles
membranous, winged at the top, ultimately dehiscent. Seeds usually 2.
