Flowers in axillary or terminal cymes or racemes, bisexual or polygamous.
Calyx persistent, 4-5-toothed, non accrescent in fruit. Petals 4-5, valvate, revolute,
bearded within. Stamens double the number of petals. Staminodes absent. Ovary
sessile; ovule solitary in each locule, pendulous; style columnar. Drupes ovoid,
ca 3 x 2.5 cm, 1-seeded, smooth.
Distributed in tropical America, tropical and South Africa, tropical Asia and Australia; about 15 species, 1 in India.
