Herbs, annual or perennial. Leaves alternate, entire to toothed. Heads yellow, heterogamous, disciform, sessile on the branches or racemose, hemispheric. Involucra} bracts 2-seriate, spreading in fruits. Receptacle naked. Outer florets female, fertile, many seriate, corolla minute, obscurely lobed. Disc florets hermaphrodite, fertile, few, tubular; limb campanulate, 4-fid. Anther bases obtuse, entire. Style arms of hermaphrodite florets short, truncate. Achenes 4-angled, tip obtuse, angles hairy, hairs sometimes hooked.Pappus absent.

Madagascar, Afghanistan, Indo-Malesia, Australia, New Zealand, Polynesia and Chile; 6 species, 1 in India.
