Shrubs or lianas, up to 5 m tall. Leaves elliptic to oblong or obovate, 5 - 12 x 3 - 6 cm, slightly glossy above. Flowers usually 4 - 7, in terminal panicles on short branches. Sepals 4, 8 - 10 x 7 - 9 mm. Petals 3 - 5, usually 4, reddish white. Stamens 6 -8 mm long. Carpels with a few stiff hairs on the back. Follicles globose, ca 10 mm across with 2 - 6 mm long beaks. Seeds ca 3.5 x 2.5 mm; aril finely fimbriate.

Distrib. India: N.E. region. Assam.

China, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Java and Sumatra.
