Trees. Leaves simple, alternate, entire petiolate. Panicles terminal and
axillary. Flowers bisexual, calyx 5-lobed, persistent, imbricate. Petals 5, free,
reflexed, imbricate. Stamens 8 - 10. Disc urceolate; 8 - 10-lobed. Carpels 5, free,
usually 1 fertile, the rest sterile; ovary superior, 1-loculed, 1-ovuled; style
subulate; stigma truncate. Fruit compressed, lenticular drupes with bony stone.
Seeds with testa free from the endocarp
Tropical Asia, Malesia, Australia, Micronesia, Melanesia and Polynesia;
ca 25 species; 8 in India.
