Herbs, marshy, glabrous or saberulous. Leaves opposite, entire to subcrenate,
sessile. Heads subsessile, heterogamous, subradiate, axillary, unilateral or in alternate
axils. Involucral bracts few, foliaceous, in opposite pairs; outer 2 larger. Receptacle convex or conical; pales enclosing the flowers. Ray florets female, fertile; corolla small,
3 - 4 toothed. Disc florets hermaphrodite, fertile or inner ones sterile; corolla tubular,
campanulate, 5-lobed. Anther bases obtuse, entire. Style arms dorsally compressed with
hispid tips. Achenes oblong, enclosed in pales, outer dorsally; inner laterally compressed.
Pappus absent.
