Herbs, annual, 15 - 60 cm high; stem erect or spreading, usually divaricately
branched. Leaves very variable, obovate or ovate or lanceolate, often pinnatifid or lyrate
with a large, ovate terminal lobe and 1 or 2 pairs of lateral lobes, subacute at apex,
coarsely crenate-serrate at margin, 5.0 - 7.5 x 2.5 - 3.5 cm, sparsely hairy on both surfaces;petioles 0.6 - 1.5 cm long. Heads few, globose, 3 - 6 mm across, on slender divaricating
peduncles. Involucral bracts minute, linear, with scarious margins. Ray florets pink or
purplish. Corollas of disc florets yellow, 4-toothed. Achenes ca 1 mm long, smooth or
minutely puberulous. Pappus of female flowers absent; of bisexual flowers 2-or 3-bristled.
