Stems-glabrous, dark red; internodes up to 4 cm long; spines 1 - 2.5 cm long. Leaves deciduoust entire, rarely with a few conspicuous spinules. Inflorescences 3 - 15-flowered, fasciculate, racemose-subfascicled, umbellate or subembellate; pedicels 4 - 16 mm long. Flowers 5 - 8 mm across. Ovules 1 - 3. Berries black, pruinose, estylose.

India, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
