Shrubs or small trees; branches densely glandular-hairy. Leaves simple, sessile, hairy. Flowers 5-merous, bisexual, perfect, hidden by leaves, solitary, or 2 - 4 in axillary or terminal cymes; bracts foliaceous. Sepals lanceolate, imbricate. Petals obovate at elliptic. Stamens 10, obdiplostemonous; filaments subulate; disk inconspicuous. Carpels 5, free; styles filiform; stigma capitellate; ovules 2 in each locules Fruits 5 or fewer, 1-seeded, pubescent, enclosed by calyx.

Pantropical, on sea shores; unigeneric.
