Trees, 3 - 5 m tall; branchlets initially appressed pubescent, soon glabrous. Leaves oblong to elliptic, acute to obtuse at base, entire and often slightly reflexed along margins, apiculate to acuminate at apex, 4.5 - 10 x 1.5 - 4.5 cm , coriaceous, glabrous and glossy above, appressed pubescent beneath; lateral nerves 5 - 9 pairs, anastomosing a little away from the margins; petioles 4 - 10 mm long, appressed pubescent. Glomerules ca 5 mm in diam., borne on main leafy branches; bracts orbicular-deltoid, 0.6 - 1 mm long. Flowers: not seen. Fruits (slightly immature ones seen), sessile to subsessile, ovoid to ellipsoid, 13 - 15 x 8 - 9 mm, glabrous, smooth, 1-locular, 1-seeded, black when dry; fruiting calyx 3.5 - 4.5 mm in diam.; tube turbinate, yellow or tawny tomentellous; persistent sepals triangular, acute, 1 - 1.5 x ca 1 mm, tomentellous outside.

Fr. Feb. - March.

Distrib. India: Scarce, coastal scrub forests on clayey soil at sea level. Nicobar Islands (Car Nicobar).

Endemic.
